People who enjoy reading Christian romance must not miss out on Unoma Nwankwor’s latest book When You Let Go set to be released in May 2014 and published by Kevstel Publications.
It is a Christian love story of Amara and Ejike, a Nigerian couple living in Dallas and the challenges they face at some point in their relationship and how they are able to overcome them through love and their faithfulness in divine intervention.
The story begins in Nigeria. Chinele’s son has suffered since birth with a blood disorder and she believes a permanent solution lies in America. In America, we are introduced to Amara and Ejike, devoted Christians, very much in love but with no child even though they have been married for six years. To Ejike, Amara is more than enough. Amara on the other hand, feels the greatest gift she can give to her husband is a child. Only a child will make her whole and finally put a stop to her mother-in-law’s snide comments. And then, when they least expect it, God answers their prayers.
When Amara gets to know that her cousin (Chinele) is in Dallas, she gets very excited. Other than being cousins, these two were best friends once; with Chinele being the big sister Amara never had – a friendship that had seemed to disappear as soon as Amara and Ejike got married. Amara had never known why. Amara’s excitement turns into a pool of tears as the treachery behind her cousin’s visit is laid out in the open. Chinele’s determination to have what “belongs to her” (Ejike) threatens every ounce of happiness the Ejikes had. What Amara faces is a big betrayal which comes with its own dire consequences. Why would God, a God she had served so faithfully almost all her life let such things happen to her? Will she be able to recover?
Despite Amara’s devotion and strong Christian values about forgiveness, what happens between her and her husband after the truth has come out; shows that even Christians as dedicated as these two are only human after all- some betrayals are just too hard to forgive or forget. Amara is torn between walking away from all that she held dear and letting go of the past to finally forgive and find true happiness again through God’s grace.
But through a pastor, God seems to speak to her about forgiveness- “…….forgive those who have offended you….. If all else fails and you can’t forgive them because you don’t think they deserve it, forgive them because you deserve peace. Forgiveness is not about them but you.”
A series of events happen after Amara decides to take on the road to forgiveness- her tears of sorrow turn into laughter. God answers her prayer and her life is complete after the trials.
Unoma Nwankwor says she is a romantic at heart and is passionate about telling stories of faith, hope and love. Her writing is unique and her stories are based on the core of happenings in our everyday life – one will relate with the characters; and wonder what they would do when or if caught up in similar situations. That’s why when you open any of her books; you will feel an invisible force pulling you to read till the very last page without a stop.
