Born in 1965 in Hoima, Uganda, Goretti Kyomuhendo is a founding member of the Ugandan Women Writers’ Association (FEMRITE). The writer currently lives in the UK, where she heads the African Writers Trust, a body that coordinates and links African writers in the Diaspora and writers on the continent.
Kyomuhendo holds an MA in creative writing from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban, South Africa. In 1997, she attended the prestigious International Writing Program at the University of Iowa, USA.
In 1996, she published her first novel, “The First Daughter” and has since then emerged as one of the foremost female writers from Uganda. In 1998, she published a children’s book entitled “Different Worlds”, which was followed by her second novel, “Secrets no More”, which came out in 1999. The book won first prize from the National Book Trust of Uganda the same year.
Her most recent book, “Waiting” came out in 2007. In 2008, she was published two children’s stories on HIV with Macmillan, UK, which are now used as texts in primary schools in Africa.
