Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie was born in 1977 in Enugu, a town in South eastern Nigeria. As a writer, Adichie enjoys the rare distinction of having won international literary awards for her first two novels. The first, Purple Hibiscus (2003) earned her the 2005 Commonwealth Writers Prize, while her second novel, Half of a Yellow Sun (2006) won the 2007 Orange Prize for Fiction.
Adichie did her college studies in the USA, where she moved at the age of 19. She has a first degree in communications and political science from Eastern Connecticut State University. She also holds master’s degrees from the John Hopkins University in Baltimore, and Yale University.
