September 2012 Giveaway – Win One of Three Books that Make Up The Cairo Trilogy (by Naguib Mahfouz)

Necip Mahfuz This competition is now closed –This month we celebrate our second anniversary as a club, and to mark this special milestone, our September Africa Book Club Giveaway competition will feature  three truly great classics from renowned Egyptian author and Nobel Literature Prize winner Naguib Mahfouz.

Three lucky readers will each win one of three books that make up The Cairo Trilogy, arguably Mahfouz’s most famous work. The trilogy comprises three books, Palace Walk, Palace of Desire, and Sugar Street.  It tells the story of the family of Al-Sayyid Ahmad Abd al-Jawad, and of their country, Egypt, from 1919 through to 1944. As our reviewer Sarah Norman notes, this is an incredibly accomplished series of books, carrying numerous characters across their entire lifespans, and creating a detailed picture of the development of modern Cairo.
